What do you think of people who use cell phones in public places (movies, restaurants, etc.)?

It's annoying especially when they use those hands free devices because you can never tell if they are talking to you or the person on the phone. Cell phones are by far one of the worst and most annoying inventions ever conceived. I rather have it like it used to be when you went home or used a pay phone to make a call. Then you have those types who like to use their cell phones while driving which would be fine if they were capable of doing both which most of the time they aren't which leads to close calls and many accidents.
I for the life of me do not know of anyone you could possibly need to call or need to receive a call from that was so important that you just couldn't wait to get home or let an answering machine pick up the call.

Personally I couldn't really get by without my smart phone, the reason being I need to be in contact with several people at more or less all times. Plus there's the fact that it's handy and very useful to be able to access my forums when I'm on the move.
However, I will say that some folks are indeed annoying with their phones and I agree that it's a complete no no in restaurants, cinemas and on public transport. I do try wherever possible to minimise any impact that my phone use has when in public and I wish others would do the same.

I agree with you on that one. That's for MOST calls. But what if people are lost at a store, parking lot, etc and need to find each other? Lol cellphones have more benefits than negatives.

What if your car breaks down and you are not within walking distance of anything that could help you? What if your family member is in trouble and needs your help immediately? Wouldn't you want to have a phone in your pocket to answer their call?
Cell phones are great for emergency situations but not for gabbing away for no reason in inappropriate situations.
Anyway, I find it annoying. Especially when people do it at the store while standing and line, then while interacting with the cashier. Thats just plain rude.
Or if you are in a waiting room (like at the doctor) and someone is just talking away while the rest of the room is waiting silently reading a magazine or whatever.. Secretly getting annoyed because they can't help but listen to this idiots one-sided conversation.
I don't mind people bringing cell phones to public places, but if it's the movies, then shut it off or turn it to vibrate, but if it's like a restaurant and it rings and it's not 100% important when you see who's calling, let it go to voice mail.

I think she means in situations where talking on the phone is disturbing other people.
It doesn't matter to me as long as they don't disturb people in silent places (restaurant, cinema). I freaking hate people that have whole private conversations on the train or bus though, seriously no one there needs to know how good he was last night...

I hate people that use phones on the bus ... I mean I don't mind people who talk at a reasonable level but most people go HELLO! IM ON THE BUS! Ohh for god sake keep your voice down... I usually have my headphones in.. Music on full and I can still hear their conversation!
