Hello everyone, This place has been around for a while so I am sure there are afew people knowledgeable in this area.

Any help/info appreciated.

Please remember my knowledge in this area is not that great

I am an admin on another site, on this site we have a chat room, it is pretty darn useless, it repeats posts and jumbles them up. So we are looking into alternative ways of chatting. We could use MSN/AIM/etc but this would not be possible for all members to use. At the moment I am looking into browser based chat rooms, does anyone know of any that would be easy to use, basic and quick log-in or no log-in required at all(At one time I think I was on a chat site where all you did was enter your desired username and began chatting straight away)

My second question could be stupid but I will ask anyway

I know the posts in the forum are capable of Flash, I currently have it enabled. Looking around the web I came across a site that offered Flash chat rooms that you could incorporate to your website and it provides the necessary code after you register the chat room. Can I put this code in a thread on my forum if I have Flash enabled???

Any help is very much appreciated!!

Plenty of chats around... they're not that hard to create.

Your options are limited to the things you have access to. Free hosts sometimes don't allow users to upload pages (as an example).

This chat is pretty cool, kinda slow at times. https://blueimp.net/ajax/ As I recall you don't have to login to use it...

IRC chats are better, they do require you to sign up though.

The flash thing should work.

Thanks for your help. Seems I will have to upgrade our site to install our own mods and stuff,

We have more important things to buy first, domain name and copyright removal, but next month or two we will upgrade and shove in a new chat. Thanks very much for your links!

Why is copyright removal important? It's just a little sentence or link at the bottom that nobody probably looks at.

Yeah thats what I said, but the people voted,

We not all that experienced when it comes to coding or messing around with the real tech stuff so think we going to leave advanced hosting and premium forum for a while.

I wonder if you could answer me another question,

We have chosen our domain name, so we are just putting out a global announcement first. After we get our own domain will the sub-domain forward people to the new one? or will non-regulars who didnt see the announcement be lost for ever? I can always sent an email out to all member anyway but just asking!

Probably depends on the host.

You should put up a link to the new domain in the subdomain anyway.

Our host is freeforums.org?

I thought the original sub-domain would be deleated/removed? if we upgrade to a domain of our choice?

Yes we are sticking with them, just paying them $15 to change our name to VBarracks.com or whatever we choose.

From your link I got this;

Domain Name- When you purchase a domain name, it will remove the .freeforums.org at the end of your url. You may choose a new domain name if you don't like your subdomain name. For example, if your url is example.freeforums.org, and you purchase a domain name, you can change it to example2.com or .org,.net,.biz,.info. This service will only cost $15/year.

Does not say anything about routing traffic from our current one to out new one after we have purchased it!

So I have to assume it does not, so the next thing to do is ensure everyone realizes we are changing the name, lol. Or else a bunch of people wont turn up at our new domain,

To be sure you should just contact their support [something].

You could send out a mass email just in case.
