Does anybody else get annoyed whenever somebody says that the opposite of hate isn't love but apathy? I don't know if it's a saying that is used elsewhere often but I've heard it said several times by my teachers. The reason that I don't like it being said is because it's wrong, the opposite of love is hate. Saying apathy is the opposite of hate is the equivalant of saying that the opposite of the number one is zero, and it's not, the opposite of one is negative zero. If you start off with no emotions than you add hate, wouldn't the opposite be to take away hate and add love? I suppose that this means that the opposite of hot water is medium-heated water.
