+Jazzy said:Hope the weather will be nice Friday. Are you ever going to try letting Bandit come along again?
Boogie said:I don't know if he can ever be let off.. And, I don't want to run the risk of him getting hurt, or worse.. And, we can't bring him, but not let him off as he gets frustrated. But, at the same time, if we do let him off, he's not guaranteed to come back when called and we could end up with a big problem on our hands..
+Jazzy said:I understand completely. I was more thinking that perhaps if you had a 25' or longer retractable lead then slowly you could give him more and more freedom. Keep extending the amount of the lead and then call him and see if he returns back on command.
Boogie said:Its a very good suggestion. But, unfortunately, he's terrible on any type of lead. If we did that, he'd still be annoyed because he can't get to all the dogs on the beach.![]()
+Jazzy said:He's terrible on any type of lead only because he's not used to it. This is how I trained my greyhound to finally be able to let him off lead. Every time he would come back on command, he got a treat. He hated leads too until he realized either he behaved or he didn't come with me. I would let out the retractable lead just enough so he could play with other dogs but not run off. I was constantly walking with him and letting the lead out and bringing the lead back in when needed. He finally got the idea. I understand you may not want to try this with Bandit. Just a suggestion so that he may one day be able to play on the beach too!![]()
Boogie said:But, the thing is. He used to be fine on the lead until recently. Now, he's just getting old and grumpy and doesn't like to be left. I know him being at home with the in laws is better than him getting himself all wound up and annoyed and stressed out.
+Jazzy said:You know best as you're his Mum. I didn't mean anything bad by what I said and I hope you didn't take it that way.![]()
