What's the concept?

It's a social experiment.

The idea is to start off with a fairly blank slate (albeit quite a bit of discussion)
and allow the community to develop the purpose and direction of it without inconveniencing the current community. A community by the community for the community, with purpose dictated by the community. Users can help with anything from code develolpment, to graphics, FAQ/guideling writing, etc.

"A community by the community for the community, with purpose dictated by the community. "

Hmm, aren't most forums like that? It'll start off with a certain structure and then over time feedback is given and adjustments are made based on what the community wants.

Most forums don't make it the entire purpose of the board.

I'd elaborate much more on the concept and its systems, but then I'd end up making a wall of text. I'll let you see for yourself when it goes up this week. I am quite excited for the occasion.

Sounds like an intriguing concept. Perhaps I'll give it a glance to see what exactly you mean.

Got tired of paying that $25 fee every few months. :banghead:

You only have to pay the renewal fee if you want to be able to download things from the marketplace.

And it certainly has.

...and to keep your software up to date, get support, etc. I like my software up to date and not outdated with known security holes.

Well, that's true. *shrugs* $25 is a small price to pay compared to having to pay for a whole new license like some other softwares.

Not to mention a few of our plug-ins (moods, for example) were paid and required payments to get the updates to work with the new versions of the software. Same thing goes along with the themes. The forum was turning into a money pit.

Yeah, that's where they get ya. That's what sucks about paid forums; but, apparently a majority of people are drawn to them because of it.

Each paid software has its benefits and downfalls.

Well I got the whole paid software thing out of my system and now I'm back to my roots. I actually like the forum better this way, not just for financal reasons either.

Alright. AT&T sent me a $200 visa gift card, so that's pretty cool. Gonna use it to pay my cable/internet, phone and gas bill. Super exciting stuff. :P

Yeah, it (and the funds on it) expire in 2 months, so, rather than using it a couple times and forgetting about it, then losing the remaining balance when it expires, I'll just use the entire balance on bills in a few minutes and be done with it. :P
$0 balance on the card since I just did the above.

That money came and went pretty quick. But at least I have a few less bills to pay for March.
