How do you feel about some songs that are really good, but yet they just don't seem appropriate for an occasion for whatever reason? I have been watching Disney Sing-Along Songs for years and I happen to have one cassette Very Merry Christmas Songs and there's one song on there where it shows scenes from a Christmas movie, but the lyrics sound like one of those songs that can be sung any time of year. One such song I'm referring to is Wooden Soldiers on Parade. Just got done listening to that one on YouTube, and while that's one of my faves, it doesn't sound very Christmasy. The lyrics are something like this:

The toy shop door is locked up tight

and everything is quiet for the night

when suddenly the clock strikes twelve

the fun's begun

the dolls are in their best arrayed

there's going to be a wonderful parade

hark to the drum

Oh here they come

cries everyone

Here them all cheering

now they are nearing

there's the captain

stiff as starch

bayonettes flashing

music is crashing

as the wooden soldiers march

sabers are clinking

soldiers are winking

at each pretty little maid

here they come

here they come

here they come

here they come

here they come

wooden soldiers on pared

daylight is creeping

dollies are sleeping

in the toy shop

window fast

Soldiers so jolly

think of each dolly

dreaming of the night that's passed

When in the morning

without a warning

toyman pulls the window shade

there's no sign a wood brigade

was ever out upon parade

That's all there is to it. This is one of my favorites, yet it just doesn't seem to resemble a Christmas song for some reason. I can't help but think of songs like toyland that are meant for young kids and are sung all year around.

What are your thoughts on this? Have you ever heard a Christmas song, and you stop and think, wait a minute. What does this have to do with Christmas exactly?

When you look at them, most Christmas Carols or songs are actually Winter Songs, and when you think about it it, there is a sizable part of the world where snow isn't part of the Christmas environment.

So Winter Wonderland is no more a Christmas Song than anything about Frosty or that song about the Brats and Beer.

That makes sense. Parade of the Wooden Soldiers isn't the first song I've heard of that doesn't seem to go with the holiday, but I know there are a fair few others just like it where it can either be sung any time of the year or sung during the whole of a given season (like winter for example).
