Circumcision

I don't feel it's a matter of right or wrong. Some families choose circumcision based on cultural or religious beliefs. Some families choose to have it done because of appearance and hygiene.

How can it be right or wrong?

Personally, i'm circumsized, if that' how you spell it.

It's part of a religion and in truth, is also done by many non Jews, because it's healthier.

They are actually thinking about making it illegal in San Francisco:

San Francisco residents aren't doing themselves any favors. But then it wouldn't be San Francisco if people didn't do stuff just because people thought we were crazy.

One city resident is proposing a ballot measure that would ban circumcision in the City, according to the San Francisco Examiner.

If passed in November 2011, the measure would change San Francisco's police code “to make it a misdemeanor to circumcise, excise, cut or mutilate the foreskin, testicle or penis of another person who has not attained the age of 18.”

The punishment for those who choose to cut away anyway would be up to a $1,000 fine and up to one year in prison.

What a load of crap.

I've heard of the opposite of circumcision. In some parts in Africa they sew up vagina's so women stay virgins until marriage.

Ehh, apparently it's even medically necessary sometimes. I don't really have any reasons to be against it tbh...

With girls it's done in different ways.

Sewing them closed is one, and cutting out the thing that allows women to experience pleasure during sex is another.

It's done for men and women. But when done to women it's seen as being much more horrific. It's all based on their faith...

So if it's not wrong for a male to have it done, then is it wrong for a female?

It's all based on faith right!?

Personally, I don't see it as being wrong for it to be done to males, but find it extremely wrong to do to females. I guess I am a little bias on this category because I am girl.

I don't think so, cutting off the foreskin isn't exactly equivalent to cutting out the clit. Circumcised males still get plenty of sexual pleasure XD

No. It is not based on faith for women. In various cultures there are many justifications for these practices. A girl who is not circumcised is considered unclean by local villagers and therefore unmarriageable. A girl who does not have her clitoris removed is considered a great danger and ultimately fatal to a man if her clitoris touches his penis.

One of the most common explanations of FGC is local custom. Women are often heard saying that they are unwilling to change these customs since they have always done it this way and are not about to change.

I totally agree with Jazzy.

It's not the opposite of circumcision, it's called female circumcision, female genital cutting (FGC), or female genital mutilation (FGM). On a woman's wedding night she is ripped apart by her husband and only experiences pain, not pleasure. Loss of a woman's genitalia also allegedly makes her stressed, anxious and aggressive and removes her ability to show warmth and caring to her children or to bond with them.
