Civilian or Military Time

Civilian time uses the numbers 1 to 12 to identify each of the 24 hours in a day. In military time, the hours are numbered from 00 to 24. When you are asked the time, do you use Civilian or Military time?

Civilian time. I don't think Ive ever heard anyone refer to it as that though.



I hate military time. I have to translate it to regular time in my head or I wont know what the person is talking about.

I'm a military brat so I was brought up using military time. The hospital requires staff to use military time when filling out forms. When I'm off duty, however, I use civilian time as I've noticed many people cannot convert easily from one to the other. All clocks in my house are also set as civilian time.

Having dyscalculia. I really struggle with 24 hour clocks. I prefer normal clocks.

I'm used to 12 hours. My dad usually uses military time (Probably because he used to work at the RAF)

I just noticed yesterday that the time on my desk phone converts over to military time after 12 noon. Not sure why but I like that it does that.

In general, I'll use civilian time, but when I'm working with the police, events need to be recorded in military time.
