The flag was never the official flag of the Confederacy during the Civil War, although its design was incorporated into several of the flags that were used. It was also used as a battle flag, and today is part of the state flag of Mississippi. But while supporters say it represents "southern pride," others believe it is a symbol of racism, and variations of the flag are often used by white supremacy organizations.

In your opinion: Racism or Ignorance?

I didn't realize "racism" and "ignorance" were mutually-exclusive; it appears they are joined at the hip and that one can not exist without the other.

I would take it a step down from either of those to: "Intentionally Offensive Stupidity".

Not to mention it is totally disrespecting the honorable men who died while serving in the Army of Northern Virginia under the banner of that unit which they are treating like that.

I think in order to be racist you first have to be ignorant. I also believe in this particular case these kids new exactly what it meant and what it stands for. They simply lack the courage to truly speak their minds in a public forum, and that is where racism is today in America.

It ain't racism and it ain't ignorance for these kids in my opinion. In this country with a crazy ass federal government putting the boot heel on the necks of us all people are wanting to feel independent from all of it here in the South. I think these kids knew exactly what they were doing. I have seen black men flying the confederate flag with a pole flying on the back of a truck so it is not racism or wanting to bring back slavery. Until a couple of years ago seeing these flags was rare. Now when I am traveling I am seeing them everywhere from on cars, flag poles instead of the American flag. Also Florida flags instead of American flags. And I am seeing them put in windows in the front of the house for all to see. It is becoming a movement. I like the movement but would have for sure picked a different flag or symbol to use to say I am protesting.
