Consoles poorly built?

Do you think console's like the PS4, XBONE, and the new generation are poorly made consoles that overheat and break eventually? or do you think they hold up pretty good?

As someone who had to get a new PS4 early last year since my original one overheated I have to say newer consoles definitely aren't built like they used to be. I have a Sega Genesis that still works just fine, never had any issues with it and it's about 30 years old now. (It isn't one of the original models that came out in 1989...) I thankfully never had any issues with my Xbox One though, and I did have to replace my N64 but that most likely was due to the fact that when I was younger my dad got pissed at me and threw it across the room... >_> It lasted a long time after that though.

I agree. I think it's intentional that they're being built with short life spans. I think Sony and Microsoft are doing it so people have to go out and buy another console when the old one over heats or tears up. Sure, they could get it fixed. But sometimes you end up paying more to get it fixed. So it's just cheaper to get a new one.

New, maybe a bad batch. You can get a bad batch at times with any products that you buy. Even at secondhand Ps4, you have to take that risk of what it had to go through and what new parts may have been added.

Those PS4 fans are damn too tiny, not even those old proccessors could work well with them. So Sony made a poor job with that generation i must say, nintendo always manage to bring good designed stuff eventually, i can't say much about XBOX since i never had one.

What about the joysticks?

Day one editions of the Xbox One had stick drift issues, in fact my controller had issues as well. (I didn't buy it brand new but it was definitely a day one edition.) It's definitely not as bad as joycon drifting issues, but even PS4 controllers can suffer from stick drift.

This is an old issue, i remember it from PS1 and N64, cheap materials are to blame, even though the cost of a XBOX one controller makes me feel cheated.. i get them for almost a hundred bucks.

The N64's stick definitely was poorly designed for sure. I don't think I've ever seen a N64 controller without a floppy stick. xD I guess even some older consoles have issues, but I still never had one of my old consoles break.

True that, but considering the prize it's logical that it breaks sooner don't you think? Only failure consoles like Sega 32X hit the scene with scandalous prizes only to be sold at 2.5 bucks

I've never had any problems with my PS4 but I did get it a year after launch so most of the launch issues were resolved by then. The only issue I've had is with the newer PS4 controllers which began to drift quite a bit. It's funny because my older controller that came with the console is perfect.

I know others have had issues but I haven't had any problems with my launch PS5 either (touch wood)

Maybe you were lucky enough to get the silent fan. Even some of the shops would replace it to make it last and you wouldn't notice until you open it by yourself.

I had a PS4 hard drive that crashed on me recently and I only had the console for a year. It's pretty frustrating.

Maybe suffered from power outages? there are various motives to have your HD crashed after a year.

Yes. Perhaps. I have no further plans on what I'm going to do with it right now.

It'll make a point if your HD crashes after a few days after buying it but after a year it could be something else. It's supposed that the PS4 PRO was built with better components.

I think my main reasons why I'm not doing anything is that it's an obsolete system due to the new console systems being out on the shelves. If I take it in somewhere to have a new hard drive put in, there might be a additional repairs that I'd have to pay for. Honestly I rarely play games anymore. I've been burned out so I don't know if it's worth my time right now.

I think so. I plan on getting something else down the road though. So it's not a terrible loss.

they seem great in my experience?

My OG PS4 was still going strong until I got rid of it for a slim one. They seem much more reliable than the 360/PS3 era.
