Do you host any contests on your forum? What are the prizes?

Have you ever won a contest on a forum? What did you win?

We did a bunch of them back on OT in the day. Usually just gave members forum cash as a reward. Maybe if we did one in the future I'd give them an amazon gift card or something. Something worth while.

I have won a couple of contests on forums. The idea of contests is to get everyone involved in what is happening on a forum. You want them to become active and complete some simple tasks in order to win at the end of the day. If the contest is not getting members to become active, then the goal looks defeated as far as I am concerned.

I've tried running a few contests on my board and they were epic failures. I have never been good at thinking about new contests and executing them. I've always been more focused on providing what the board is intended for, in my case coding resources.

I'm trying one this month. A raffle/giveaway for a free book or Amazon gift card. Members can earn forum cash and purchase the raffle ticket with it. No bites as of yet, but I will plug it more heavily as the month draws to a close.

This is my first one so it's sort of a test. I may have to revise the method and/or increase the prize value in future months.

I tried my hand at running a contest. A $50 gift certificate to RightStuf!. The problem was that I didn't have nearly enough active members, nor did I really have the funding at the time (I lost my overtime hours that I thought were stable), and ended up with an extreme delay in fulfilling the prize. I'll probably restart contests once I have a good five or ten people actively participating in any given month.

I like planning contests, but then when it comes to running them, hardly anyone signs up. I think if big money was offered, more would be interested.

I've hosted contests on my forum when I had one back in the day. Usually the prizes were cash prices or gift cards.

I have won a few contests. The one time I won a posting package for my forum and the second time I won a special title and bragging rights.
