So how do you feel about forums that are copies of other forums? Lack originality and such?

People who copy other people is just plain immature and childish to me. If they can't be creative, then they don't need to have a site in the frist place.

There was a site a little while ago that was a complete knock of FA. Same pictures for things, and everything. It disappoints me, that some people want to be an administrator of a popular site so bad, that they'll steep to the levels of completely stealing the ideas of other people.

If they are a direct copy then obviously it's a bad thing. If they take an idea then innovate upon it, then that's fine; that's what Firefox and Opera have done to get an edge on Internet Explorer and well, IE is the one struggling to catch up in features.

That happened a few times. Im sure it will happen with this forum. People who do this are

and asking for failure.

It's lazy and pointless - It doesn't work and generally is against the ToS of most forum providers and just gets your forum deleted.

I know there is hardly any originality on the Internet anymore, which is the major reason why I have stopped trying to run a forum ever again. It's fun when you first start out, I mean, trying to come up with ideas and things, but once your forum ages it's hard to come up with anything, so I am trying like heck to scrap the idea all together, really, and just start enjoying myself as a member. It's not worth it anymore. Looking back on 2008 I thought it would be a fun idea, but look at all I have done this past year. None of our posts were exactly original, and I... I don't know what to say on the subject anymore. Why waste my time trying when there are so many succesful forums out there already that one can join and be active on?

I hate them as they lack originality and it's just that person being overly jealous.

Could be jealousy. Ive seen people start up forums out of spite because they could not get on the staff or (if they were already on the staff) get a promotion to a higher rank. These sorts of people are thirsty for power and if they cannot get it on the forum they want, they will make a strikingly similar forum to be in charge of.

I saw this on a recently opened forum. They stole topics and forum games and it was a mirror image of a forum I frequent. This just shows me that the recently opened forum has no original ideas of their own. I joined just to see if they would keep doing it and sure enough they have.

I will sometimes visit other forums to get topic ideas, but I don't go and get 'management' ideas.

Forums which mimic another forum in terms of style and appearance are already demonstrating immaturity and a lack of creativity from its administrators.

Forums which focus on the same subject as another forum but improves the experience of its own community are original in development and respectable competitors.
