There are so many out there and all can have their pros and cons and can be safe if you use some nice step.
I have both but i still like more the wood, plastic dulls the knives quicker than a wood surface , so i prefer more the wood
but i do use different cutting boards for raw meat, fish, and poultry , fruit and veggies , and bread.

What are your favourite to use?

I prefer wood, my "main" cutting board is bamboo which has been very durable. The good thing about plastic which I do use once in a while is that you can throw them in the dishwasher.

I agree plastic you can just throw in the dishwasher . I see so many people put the wood in the dishwasher but that's so wrong this can make small cracks and also a quick way for bacteria to go in

I find it very easy to maintain and i have mine for years still strong maybe you got some bad ones
I love wood, but they're a pain to maintain at times, and when they crack, ugh!!!

Yeah, possible I just have bad luck with them. I even bought renewal oils and things of that nature to keep them going, but the ones I've used have split on me or just weren't good to use.

There no other explanation just bad ones ... I need to start looking to replace mine but the one i like cost .

I'll have to see if I can find a decent one out there. Wood is nicer to use
The ones I have been using for years are very similar to THIS ; quite cheap, really, thin & easy to handle & very durable. No cracking or splitting.

This place claims to sell a dishwasher safe board. (They have LOTS of interesting shapes & sizes, too.)
Looks nice & not that expensive; but as easy as they are to hand wash, personally I'd be afraid to test it. :D

Oh agreed, I don't think I'd ever not hand wash a wooden board.

Food-grade safe cedar cutting boards.
Have three of them - one for raw meats, the other two for other foods and I keep them very much separate from the other.

We have several cutting boards here. My fav is the big thick wood one we have (got it from ikea a few years ago I think). We also have a smaller wooden one and several plastic cutting boards in all different sizes.
