When would you consider a forum near death? When do you put it out of its misery?

I'm watching a forum that I used to be a member of dying a slow death. There are over 500 members on this forum. It used to be very active until the Admin stopped caring that the moderators were chasing top posters away. They achieved this by flaming and ignoring members posts. All they did/do is post to each other. Right now, there have been no new topics added for several weeks. Currently only three members are posting. This is not due to the fact that this is a slow time for all forums as this has been going on for months now. IMO, it's time to pull the plug!

A forum would be near its death if it suffers from severe inactivity where only a few people post in it, as what Jazzy said. I've seen some forums that were really inactive and I personally think the Admins in them are just wasting their time running them. What's the point running a forum where hardly anything happens to it?

Just wanted to add that the forum I spoke about in my prior post is not a new forum. This forum was created two and half years ago. It's sad to see it like it is now. Used to have so much fun there and it was so active both day and night. It's a shame that it has gotten to the point where the plug needs to be pulled. That's what happens, I guess, when the Admin is not directly involved and the moderators take over and ruin it for everyone. Most of the top posters there that left (like myself) had over 20k posts invested in that forum.

My forum has nearly died so many times, but I bring it back from the dead. Currently I am averaging about 10 posts a week. We have waited for a year for the major changes I can now implement. Now I hope to bring it back so that it is better than ever!

A forum is only dead when no one visits it(outside of the owner). As long as someone comes there then it's still got life to it and can be revived back to the way it used to be.

Well, my forum is entering the doldrums again, but I wouldn't kill it entirely. I still think it has potential to become great.

I think the reason that there's been a massive slow down in forums across the world is because it's nearing the end of school for a lot of young people, a large percentage of which usually make up forums.

Or maybe Facebook is finally starting to win out, to this I say Never!!
