Deleting you account

Normally if you do that, all of their posts are either named as written by Guest, or their profile just disappears. It looks pretty stupid.

It doesnt look stupid to me. What is stupid is when the admin refuses to delete someone's account. If the person has a valid reason, then its pretty childish not to grant them a simple request.

What would be a valid reason to do so? Maybe the administrator regardless of what that specific member wants, feels that he should keep his or her dedication to the website intact as opposed to erasing them from the sites history. If I had a member with over twelve thousand posts and was a great part of the website for a time I wouldn't delete his posts if he wants to leave... leave, in my opinion it is pretty childish to want that request. It doesn't make a difference whether you leave or you're deleted except make it difficult for members to know who made which post.

How is it childish to want that request? Not all people who request deletion were dedicated members. Some were barely active, barely contributed to the community..some can even be hazardous to the community because their sole purpose is to troll everyone in it. I would be more than happy to delete a troll from my forum. Why do admins insist on wanting dead space? If those are your rules then that's fine, but I don't mind deleting accounts. And when you delete the account, the posts are still there. The history remains as long as you don't delete the posts and topics themselves.

Yes the posts are still there, the user gets to leave satisfied and the admin doesn't have any bad feelings of unhappy people hanging over their head.

What is the big deal in having your account deleted in the first place the only thing that changes is that your account exists or it doesn't. If they're going to troll my forum than I'll ban them plain and simple but I am not going to delete their account if they were actually a dedicated member for just because I want the history to remain intact. The history does remain most and topic wise but I want people to know exactly who made those posts and who knows maybe by some off chance the member may want to return. I wouldn't have any bad feelings because the member is being immature, just leave and all is well. Now if it were someone who was barely active and didn't do anything to assist the site I would delete him if he requested but I wouldn't delete someone who was a huge part of the site.

Well I would not delete someones posts if they requested that. I will delete their account and their posts will appear to be posted under the name Guest.

The reason for that is when you delete someones posts, it throws off conversations and things dont make sense. The topics they started really wont make any sense because the topic will be preserved but the 1st reply to the thread will be the new original (1st) post in that thread.

I don't know why anyone would want to keep an unhappy member on your board and instead have a bunch of drama start up and everyone pissed off just because you won't get off your butt and delete an account. Stats mean nothing when the stats are based off of accounts owned by people who have no interest in being on the board.

I don't understand how this topic - of all things to discuss - has gone on for nearly 50 replies. Seriously; how lacking in topics are we?

Some topics go on for more than 50 replies. It happens of forums.
