I am not sure how many people here actually follow 'English' Football, since I am guessing the majority of you are American, but I was so eager to post this anyway.

It has now been confirmed, 100%, that Memphis Depay. The young footballing prodigy from the Netherlands, will be playing for Manchester United next season. I am a Liverpool fan through and through, but I am so excited to see that the young man, 20, considered to be the next 'Cristiano Ronaldo' is going to be playing in the Premier League next season. He has apparently signed a contract that will be worth £130,000 of wages per week ($200,752.50 USD) and cost Manchester United a fee of roughly £25,000,00 (£25 million) ($38.6 million USD).

We were bouncing this around over at Talk the Reds (I'm the Match Commentator there) and I think what eventually sent young Depay down to Old Trafford instead of to Anfield was, (a)his familiarity with Louis van Gaal from LVG's time as the Dutch national coach and (b)the fact that unlike Liverpool, who were making a decent effort to get him, Depay & his agent had both said he wanted to go where he could potentially play in Champions League down the road, something we couldn't provide in the coming year.

I too am a Liverpool fan, I hate Brendan right now because of his lack of effort when it comes to transfers. We could have signed Shaqiri at one point, but he couldn't be bothered to make the effort. Someone else needs to look after the transfers.

(Don't be put off by the Bayer Leverkusen badge, I love that club too.)

I don't quite think its' all on Rodgers; yeah, he's missed the mark a few times (Mario Balotelli, anyone?) Steller but the bulk of the blame should go to Liverpool's Transfer Committee. There's at least three players that come to mind: Shaqiri, Alexis Sanchez and Memphis Depay who we've tried to sign but who've gone elsewhere. That has a two-part effect: (1)it gives our opponents a boost player-wise and (2)it makes other comparable players think twice about signing for us.

Depay's signing is also a reminder that, unlike the other "big" clubs in the Premier League (Chelsea, Arsenal, United & City), Liverpool doesn't have quite the monetary bank needed to sign those top-tier players...to be fair, though, where I think Rodgers screwed up this year was in how he spent the Luis Suarez money following El Pistolero's departure from Anfield; its' eeriely similar to how Spurs spent their money after Gareth Bale bailed from WHL to the Bernabeu.

And don't sweat the Leverkusen badge; when I'm not supporting Liverpool, my other favorite team is Glasgow Rangers. :D

I reckon that we need a cash injection, otherwise we will not be able to compete with the big boys like we have over the last (two) seasons especially (this one included). It is such a shame that Champions League football has, again, slipped through our fingers. I suppose we haven't been a European hardened club for a few years now, maybe the Europa League will be a good start for us. Maybe it will get our Transfer Committee and coach* to think about how much they need to start trying to reel in prodigies and well known players before other clubs.

Southampton and Spurs are doing relatively alright even without the cash injection.

I dislike how clubs these days depend on foreign talent a lot more than homegrown players. It is a shame.

Anyway, I wonder how Depay will turn out in Man Utd. Man Utd is terrible this season, even with new players. Di Maria, yuck!

Good point there, Jonathan, though to be fair, Spurs did get a crap-ton of dollars from selling Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.
