Did you eat at school, or bring your own lunch?

I started off bringing my own sack lunches which my mom usually did for me as a kid. It was usually a PB&J sandwich, a snack cake, and potato chips (the American kind). I think I chose to eat at school instead sometime during junior high school. At my school they did 'snack' which was basically like breakfast, then lunch.

So, what did you bring usually if you did a sack lunch? What did you like or dislike at your school for lunch?

Schools here don't offer food to students. We had (and still have) to either bring something with us or go out during the recess and buy something at some fast food joint, which is what most, if not all students here do. I don't recall seeing anyone bringing something with them.

Personally, I never ate nor drank anything at school, even during the recess.

I used to eat school lunches, but the primary school I went to wouldn't let you return to class unless you finished your lunch, and I was a particularly picky eater, so there were multiple instances where I'd have to sit for an hour or two after lunch because I couldn't eat that day's meal. They'd eventually send for my sister to "convince" me to eat it, but even she got fed up and, when they weren't looking, she'd just eat it herself :D. After this happened a couple of times my mother decided just to pack my lunch for me and that's how it went from then on, pack lunch.

school lunch
most days it was too bad and I wouldn't eat it

but on fridays, they always did fish and fries- which was edible. not the best I'd tasted, but at least I ate... from monday to thursday I ate nothing

That's horrible, I hope you managed to eat after school!

What? For some kids around here (either very poor, have bad parents, drugged out parents, etc), school lunch is the only meal these kids get! In the summers when schools are closed they set up stations around the city and give out free lunches to kids daily. On Fridays they might give them some more things to get them through the weekend.

Same here. Loved it when they had mashed potatoes, turkey and gravy. Most everything else was ...meh

Well that is a bit dumb tbh. I am a picky eater too. I only ever ate the foods I know I would enjoy/like and threw the rest away. So like your veggies, fruits, etc. I know what hit different were Fridays being pizza and chocolate milk.

This is why my school basically did breakfast due to reasons like this. School even paid for the students field trips and other things due to these reasons too. I never had to pay a dime for anything at my school. The lunch was always free at my school too. Not every student has parents who can afford field trips, paying for school lunches, or other reasons. Anyway, yep! Sometimes school lunch is the only time some kids even get to eat a thing. During the summer time here they have a summer time meal thing iirc.

I had free lunch because I qualified for it due to being poor. If you parents were less poor they could qualify for reduced lunch (where its like 1/2 price or more). If parents made over a certain amount they they had to pay full price for lunches.

qualified
I only ever remember paying a quarter or so for milk as when I was in public school you had to do that. Still never gonna forget the time me and a classmate got accused of putting a fake quarter to pay for our milk.

Did you get white milk or chocolate milk? :P

I absolutely agree, it was a ridiculous policy, and it's not like they were serving up gourmet meals, either! It was mostly disgusting, so I rarely ate much. Don't know what I'd have done if I didn't have my sister to just get pissed off and eat it for me :D

I brought lunch boxes. A sandwich, a Twinkie[or or cupcake], Doritos[or chips] and thermos of ice tea[or can of soda].

A kid that drank iced tea? Seems like more of an adult beverage. I liked tea as a kid too though. I always thought I was the only one.

You thought wrong. Crystal Light ice tea .

Another example that we live in completely different worlds. Here, as far as schools are concerned, kids can drop dead and no one will bat an eye.

I was always sent to school with a packed lunch my mum made for me. She fed me pretty well, too. She used to make me tuna pasta with diced peppers in; I always did look forward to my school lunch. :)
