If you were in a situation where you had to give your life to save someone, would you do it?
If so, who would it be?

I'm in a profession where I have risked my life to save that of another. Came close several times to almost not making it myself. That doesn't count, however, as me making a conscious decision to give my life for that of a stranger.

The only person I would have stepped up to save would have been my dad. When his cancer got so bad and he was in so much pain, hell I would have swapped places with him in a heartbeat. He was my best friend and now he's gone.

I can think of a few people, I could count on one hand. One of them being my mum.

I would definitely die for my daughter, not sure about anyone else though. I suppose I would have to decide that in the heat of the moment, if it ever happens.

I will turn the question around in light of a relevant quote:

"No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."
- General George S. Patton (1885 - 1945)

Would you kill somebody, face to face, to save somebody who was not a member of your family or somebody else dear to you?

Funny you should bring up Patton. I very much liked another one of his quotes, which I won't reproduce in this forum because it contains the "f" word, but you can read it here.

Honestly, no. I don't think fear would allow me to do such a thing.

Has the person done anything to wrong me, or are they a random person I have never met? The one I have to kill, I mean.

See I thought about that, but then it occured to me, she would not be happy if she lived longer than I did, so I don't think I would give up my life for somebody else...is it wrong that I don't want to be the hero?

I guess if i was trained to protect others it would just be a given. But being just a average guy it would i think for me be a reaction more than anything else. Having time to think about things MAY lead some to hesitate.
I don't know really. It's hard to answer unless one in put in that position.
But i do hope i never am.
