Some of you might have heard it already, but yesterday a heavy storm hit a very large Belgian music festival. There was a lot of damage, tents collapsed, pillars and trees fell over, food stands were ripped apart... You get the picture. The death count is up to 5 now and there are a lot of injured as well.

Anyway, the reason I'm telling you this is because I was there, at the far side of one of the tents that collapsed. It was called the boiler room which was basically a large tent in which people were taking shelter. It all happened so fast, the tent was being ripped apart by the wind, suddenly the security said we had to evacuate and it was total chaos. Then the whole construction came down with most of my friends still inside. One broke his back and one was trampled in front of my eyes when she tripped and fell. I rushed towards her to see if she was fine and she really seemed alright, obviously hurt, but nothing too severe. I helped her up and brought her to the paramedics who were arriving on the scene. At that point she started to get very dizzy, we put her down and tried to keep her awake but she became unconscious. She's still in a coma now, they say she's not responsive, whatever the hell that might mean...

Anyway, I'm not really sure why I'm posting this, probably just needed to tell the whole story to someone, because I'm really a mess right now. It's just so weird, we were joking on the way to the medical aid... everything seemed to be fine and now she might never wake up again...

One of my friends on Facebook said about the deaths at the Pukkelpop festival but never mentioned what caused them. May the victims rest in peace, and I hope the others make a full recovery also

I would like to start out by saying that I'm so happy you are okay. I cannot imagine the fear you must have gone through. I am so sorry that you're friends were injured. I am praying for a complete recovery not only for your friends but for all those that were hurt. My heart goes out to the families of the people who did not make it out and lost their lives. This is just so very tragic. I hope you will be kind enough to update us on the status of your friends. Sending you a big

Yeah, heard about it on the radio...

Let's just hope she wakes up :/

Thanks for the replies, they're much appreciated.

My friend who broke his back will most likely make a full recovery with the exception of being able to drive a car manually because he lost most feeling in his left foot. All in all not a bad result when a large, heavy iron pole hit your back.

The girl woke up but it's unknown to me how she's doing. I heard from some of her (female) friends that she's got amnesia and brain damage and she might not be the same ever again. However I've not seen her in person.

Thank you so much for giving us an update on your friends. The friend who broke his back is very lucky and so happy he'll make a full recovery. It's a very good sign that the girl woke up. Perhaps with the proper therapy she can make a come back from this. I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Are you planning on visiting her?

Her family only allows her closest friends to visit at the moment, because she's very confused about everything. When she's doing a little better I'm going to see her.

That's understandable and I hope you'll be able to visit her soon.

Wow sounds intense & not in a good way. I'm glad that you are okay and that none of your friends were killed. I've never experienced any bad natural disasters but I imagine it would be pretty scary.

Lucky him... considering.
