And the 1940 epic Fantasia was as pure as the driven snow, with its "Sorcerer's Apprentice" and several other interesting scenes, which does include a version of Ava Maria, which is half a step short of idoltry, being sung to a demon, but that is a thread for another time.

Maybe not, but the original version had an unpleasant racial scene in the "Pastoral" section. And some of the other scenes had an interesting 'adult' undercurrent that the intended audience probably didn't get at the time.
You can find "uncensored" versions of that scene, with 'Sunflower', online. And even in 1940, it was in poor taste.
On the whole, I've never had any use or appreciation for the film, however, it is a masterwork of animation to music, and is perhaps one of the creative pinnacles of the Disney studios.

I am not seeing the controversy. There have been stories about supernatural beings having sex with mortals for a while now. Also like PGen98 identified it isn't even targeted at kids.

It's not made BY Disney, it's made and written by one of its' subsidiary companies and broadcast on a network they own which is aimed at adults.
