Do you believe there is a God??

Do you believe there is an Omnipresence being looking after us?

So, Mr. Fry would rather be a robot without personal choice and responsibility?

Perhaps we would be better off without certain insects, but, then again, we might be better off without certain people. Oh, and maraschino cherries have to go too.

No. The world is what it is, and we are what we are, and God is: "I Am".

You get your ticket, and take your ride, and make your choices.

I can't prove the existence of God or a god or multiple gods one way or another so I don't claim he exists, nor do I claim he doesn't exist. I suppose you could call me agnostic, which is what I've been for quite some time now. But I don't believe an all powerful creator needs to exist for human beings to have morals, ethics, empathy/sympathy and a downright good human being. That is something that bothers me quite a bit when it comes to religious nuts who think you can't be human without believing in a creator.

I keep it simple, there is no god but that dose not mean you should behave like an arse just treat people how you would like to be treated yourself, and IF there is a god like Mr Fry suggested WTF are you doing ????

Maybe. If there is, or isn't, I don't really care. I won't change the way I live on a 'just in case' basis like many people seem to. If there IS a god, how do we know it is benevolent? How do we know it cares? Does it even know we exist? If it is the creator, why does it also destroy?

Too many questions.

I find it odd that every ancient civilization you can name, and all the ones you can't, ALL believed in a Creator and various 'underlings' by various names and with different jobs depending on the culture, and yet, it is only Modern Man that denies the existence of anything higher than "us".

And, no, to the cute Atheist graphic above... Everybody at the Crucifixion being referenced by the date, including the Roman Centurion famously portrayed by John Wayne in a movie made some time later, believed in a god, just maybe not That one.

Well, at one point people thought many women were witches and killed them because of it. Also, we once thought the Earth was flat and that it was orbited by the sun. Perhaps with our growing intelligence over the years, we're just discovering the truth.

crucifixion....theres an interesting point...........a key point in christian 'history' wouldnt you agree......in other words you celebrate a man being tortured to death.

Not exactly.

More to the point, we Remember what happened on the cross, and Celebrate what happened a couple of days later.

Yes I believe in many. Gods and Goddesses don't have to be proved to me, I have m belief and that is enough for me.

Not exactly, again.

There were zombie legends prior to that world wide, including some interesting ones from the Far East, and Jewish mythology is full of them, this one was different.

In the vast majority of cases, however, the poor unfortunate was unable to interact intelligently with the rest of us, as is still the case except for the odd TV show to the contrary.

The Risen Christ not only interacted with his friends, he cooked them lunch.

Sorry.

I tend to take posts in the Debate section as serious unless they are obviously labeled otherwise.

I couldn't have said it better.

I believe there is a God, and in regards to what Stephen Fry said in that interview, maybe God has a plan so big and so complex that the entire hierarchy of values and standards of ethics that we base our current world on are not capable to contain it. Maybe God's view of the entire timeline since creation till the end of time is so sophisticated that it can't even be measured by our current thinking.

Oh, "He let a child die from bone cancer, so He must be evil". That's an ignorant atheist belief that shows the fact that they are not capable of seeing beyond their own set of principles, ethical and intellectual values. Who is to say that death is a bad thing? Who is to say that death is not just God's way of taking a soul into Heavens to save that human from living a horrible life filled with terrible events? Who is to say that the soul of the child didn't agree, before (s)he was born, to be sacrificed in exchange for something in God's plan? Who is to say that something better will become of said soul in the afterlife than it would have become had he lived a long human life?

And as far as beowulf's signature is concerned, who is to say that children being sexually abused is a bad thing? Our current cultural standards of modern society? I'll show you tribes in Africa where children being sexually deflowered by the village "shaman" is considered a beneficial ritual that has to take place in order for the community to prosper because their gods demand it. It's all a cultural construct. Do you consider yourself superior to those people? Well, guess what? They consider themselves superior to us too.

I have absolutely no words for this post and am quite frankly shocked that these words were even typed.

Well, this section is called the "Debate Room", so I invite you to try to find your words and express your opinion, in order to have a debate... ^^

I agree with "Kazam".

I'm not sure I understand what Dee meant by her "quite frankly shocked" comment.

Probably because I can't fall back on an all-knowing god who has a "reason" for why bad things happen, which is why some of the comments seem quite ignorant and heartless.
