But what do people in your local area say? I'll bet its 'soda' I've been up a few times there and heard them saying that :p
I guess that I have not been paying attention. Don't think that I can really answer that accurately......
it's always, "Would you like a Coke or a Ranier?"

I usually just call it by the actual name, "lemme get a Dr. Pepper" or coke or whatever. Never really use those.

I am sure there has been situations in your life where you needed to say the word "soda" or something similar. :P

I'm in Michigan, USA & I've always called it "pop" here. Anybody call a dark drink "Coke"? When I was visiting a friend in Tennessee years ago she offered me a "Coke" but handed me a Pepsi! I know some areas "Coke" is the generic term just like how we say "Kleenex" or "google".

Yeah calling all soda "coke" is a thing where I'm from originally. It's a southern thing.

Personally I trained myself out of it and use the word "soda".

I guess I have not tried hard enough at retraining myself. I still ask for Coke, because it's what I prefer. Waitstaff seems to be retrained now; instead of "Will Pepsi be okay?", they just bring me something to drink...whatever they have.
