Have you ever read a book and been disappointed by the ending? Did that ruin the whole book for you or does it even matter?

Plenty of times. It's really annoying to read a fast pace book that has you on the edge of your seat, then when you reach the end it's so boring and predictable it's unbelievable. I especially hate it when the main character dies. When the ending isn't what it should be I tend not to read the book again. Ruins it.

Of course the ending matters. Unless there's going to be a sequel it should pretty much end the story in a satisfactory way!

As an avid reader the ending absolutely matters! I've been so disappointed in some authors that I no longer buy their books.

I have to agree with the above statements, The ending is one of the most important parts of the book. It can either save or destroy a book. If the book's pacing is done well and the end serves its purpose well then the book could be a masterpiece. A poor ending as a result or lack of answering the questions posed by the book or leading up to something that doesn't happen in the end of the book could be disastrous and greatly affect people's opinion of the author.

I'm not entirely in agreement. Apparently it's a very Zen standpoint, but I'm of the opinion that the journey matters a lot more than the ending. I don't let the last chapter completely ruin all the enjoyment I took from the previous fifty.

Yeah. I feel like the same goes for movies, TV shows, video games, etc.

When I was reading the Left Behind series, and was on the last book. I had already known what was going to happen. That I didn't have a problem with. It was reading the entire thing to get to the end that was the issue. Considering it felt like forever with word after word.

I'unno if y'all read A Series of Unfortunate Events, but the ending of it almost made me wish I hadn't started reading in the first place.

It can matter a lot to me. Initially I thought this wasn't so applicable to me because of my reading selection. However I recall a few occasions when the writer has used the finishing sections to make some political attacks that don't directly relate to the rest of the book.

The Vampyre by Tom Holland has a really crap ending. Well I thought so anyway. The book was so thrilling, detailed and just a great vampire book, but at the end I was like 'Oh, is that it?' It did spoil the book to be honest.

Yes it does. It doesn't ruin the whole book for me but it does give me that bitter aftertaste. Especially when it's the ending of a series of books, like is often the case with fantasy books. You read all 5 books and the ending screws the whole thing up. =/
