You know what I don't understand? How, in threads like this, a general discussion forum is almost always the majority pick of the different types people list in threads like these.. but yet, when you go onto advertising boards, and have their tutorials about having a successful board, you almost always see them say that you should just pick a theme, and not have a general forum because they aren't popular.
I mean look at this thread for example. Everyone, except for Raymond, and the OP has said that they preferred general/community forums. And even then, if you want to get technical, a general forum can include gaming discussion, as they usually encompass everything under the sun.
If it is true that no one wants to join a general forum or that they aren't popular, and that really is how it is, then why is it that the general/community forum is almost always the most popular choice in threads like these on many forums? Could the type of forum threads like this are posted on have something to do with this? If this were on a sports forum, would the majority of users pick sports as the kind of forum they like?
On another note, how can someone say that they aren't interested in a general forum when chances are, that forum might have an area dedicated to the actual topic they are interested in?
Does this make sense?
Sorry for the rant, it is just something that I've been wondering about.
