Where is the best place to buy a domain name (.com .net .org and so on)?

Do you think it really matters where you register your domain?

If you own(ed) any domains, who have and do you use? Why?

I registered some domain names with GoDaddy.com in the past. They're cheap and I haven't had any problems with them.

I don't like registering them with the hosting company. If you wanna change hosts it can be a real hassle to transfer over the domain name as well in my experience.

I switched to NameCheap because its cheaper and I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of in-your-face-offers that you have to bypass in GoDaddy.

I use Name.Com now, in the past I used Namecheap and Godaddy. Wouldn't recommend Godaddy. I've heard good things about Gandi, which is a bit more expensive than some.

If we talking about typical TLD like .com .net .biz, I would choose the cheapest domain registrars for example godaddy.com or similar.

But with more exotic domains like norwegian, or other where you need to be citizen of particular country to buy a domain, you need special domain services in this country. Not every typical registrar can offer those domains.

I've got problem with it, cause for my client I must buy Norwegian domain :-/ but I'm Polish. So I found this company http://web-solutions.eu , maybe they are not the cheapest, but support is on the highest level :) And they have lot of very ristricted domain names. If someone have same problem to mine, I really recommed them :)

I use GoDaddy until recently now I'm with Namecheap who I had my first domain with 7 years ago.

I've used a few in the past but at the moment I only have them on name.com and Crazy Domains. Don't really favour either but name.com is a little bit more expensive but has free DNS. Crazy Domains seems to be quite cheap for the name alone but charge an arm and a leg for extra stuff like hosting, DNS, etc.
