A priest experienced in exorcism has warned people to be wary of playing with Ouija boards over the Christmas period due to them unwittingly unleashing evil spirits into the home.

An updated version of the classic seance equipment has been tipped by Google to be a big seller this Christmas in the wake of the recent release of the film, Ouija starring Olivia Cooke.

The Catholic priest, who is based in Dublin spoke anonymously to the Irish Independent: ‘It’s easy to open up evil spirits but it’s very hard to get rid of them.

‘People, especially young people and teenagers who are likely to experiment with Ouija boards on a whim, can be very naive in thinking that they are only contacting the departed souls of loved-ones when they attempt to communicate with the dead using the boards.

‘It’s like going to some parts of Africa and saying I’m personally immune to Ebola, but it does leave people open to all kinds of spiritual dangers.’

Darren Ansell from the Paranormal Study and Investigation team said: ‘ wouldn’t touch an Ouija board with a barge pole.

‘I’ve had too many scares over the years.’

Questions:

Ever try a Ouija board?

Ever have a scare using a Ouija board?

Nobody should play with the Damned Things (and that terminology is appropriate there) ever.

They are a tool, yes, it is a tool and NOT a game, for opening a portal to the underworld.

Even the modern ones with absolutely no other connection to the original "Talking Board" besides the name, namely being made of plastic and pressed cardboard, can function to pull back the veil that keeps things that are neither fun nor cute out.

And, think about this, if something comes over, even by accident, can YOU make it go home?

I have been asked to dispose of more than one of them that were given to people who thought it was harmless, and then had other ideas later. And it can be done, in spite of the Urban Legend that you can't "throw one away".

There is a brief discussion here under section labeled "A Warning".
