Coke is still the top soda in America. But the runner up spot, long held by Pepsi, now belongs to Dr Pepper.

After years of slowly gaining market share, Dr Pepper inched ahead of Pepsi as the number two soda brand in the country in 2023, according to market share data from Beverage Digest, a trade publication.

Coke is the leader by a comfortable margin. Last year, it captured 19.2% of the soda market in the United States by volume, Beverage Digest’s data shows. Dr Pepper and Pepsi both had 8.3%, with Dr Pepper technically ahead. After that came other brands owned by Coca-Cola: Sprite came in at 8.1% and Diet Coke at 7.8%.

I used to drink Dr.Pepper all of the time up until it started tasting nasty. So I quit drinking it. I haven't liked it since.

I never really liked Dr Pepper, and I still don't.
I've noticed that I have a problem drinking any sodas now. I opened a lemonade the other day and struggled to drink it.

I hardly drink any soda, so I guess this makes them all taste bad to me. Even before, I never had a lot.
Now, I might have three a year.

And it's well deserved. Dr. Pepper is the king as far as I'm concerned. Consider me addicted.

Coca Cola... we coming for you next bitch!!

I was never a fan of Dr. Pepper. [shrugs]

Kinda surprising. I do like me some Dr Pepper though!

Ironic but just a couple days after this thread, on the latest episode of the Drive-In, Joe Bob said Dr. Pepper is the king! Yeah!!!

lol

Did they ever come out with a cola or a ginger ale?

Same! I used to be a huge Dr. Pepper fan and when I moved into my college dorm, I just stopped liking it. It got old. Transitioned to Root Beer and still very much love that, but have now moved onto Coke.

As someone who prefers Dr Pepper over either Coke or Pepsi, I'm glad I'm not alone!

Coke & Sprite are long-time favorites; I've always preferred Dr. Pepper over Pepsi.

Dr. Pepper is something I have never drunk. Tried it and it did not appeal. Not really big on colas, either. Lemon-lime-y drinks (Sprite, 7-Up) or ginger ales are my preferred pop. But I don't drink pop much anymore. Nice to see someone other than the big two getting major market share, though.
