Driver's Ed

What is drivers ed? In Australia if you want to drive all you have to do is take a series of lessons either with the Log Book which logs your performance and at the end you get your licence or you can do a VORT which you take a test where you drive and if you pass all of the units you pass and get your P's.

Driver's Education is simply a course you may take in high school to help you become a better driver. It's not required, but it teaches you how to be a safe and educated driver, preparing you for the road. Now, you still have to take a driver's test to get your driver's license, but this course helps you hopefully pass the driver's test and know how to drive safely.

They dont offer it in high schools around here. The schools dont have enough money in the budget to offer those type of classes. They have driving schools where parents have to pay for the classes. I did that. It was totally useless. You dont even have to pass anything to pass the class, you just have to show up for the required amount of time + do a couple behind the wheel lessons then you can go take your written / driving test at the DMV.

Our high school has a Driver's Ed course, but you have to pay $60.00. I'm currently in Driver's Ed because it lowers insurance and at the end of the nine weeks we're allowed to take our driver's test with him, so hopefully I can pass his test and not have to go down to the DMV to take the test with a trooper. If I pass I still have to go down to the DMV to show them my certificate, but at least I don't have to take the test.

nine weeks?

I only had to do 30 hours of class time and 6 hours behind the wheel to meet requirements to go on to the DMV if remember correctly.

It's a nine week course altogether, but the first three weeks you do written work, but then the remaining six weeks you drive, but you only drive one day a week with a group. I drive on Thursdays with three other people, including the instructor. On other days, besides Thursday, I aid for a teacher.

That sucks, you could easily condense it into a couple weekends and have it over with..

I don't know if they ever did have a Driver's course when I was in School. But if they did, no one ever said anything to me about it. Could have seriously used something like that.

In my state we have Standard driver training schools. Standard driver training schools provide instruction in the operation of pleasure cars. These training programs provide the following services:

A state-approved driver education course which is required for license applicants under the age of 18. This course consists of a minimum of 30 hours classroom, 6 hours behind-the-wheel instruction and 6 hours observation. Students who successfully complete the course are issued a Driver Education Certificate.

Instructors at participating schools are certified to administer the DMV driver license road test. This service is provided to students who have completed an approved driver education course.
