Drug addicts

We should help them. Mental health services need to be widely available. Lots of the time drug addition is a coping mechanism, you need to dig deep into people's psyche to deal with these issues so they can move forward with the help they need.

I agree. Perhaps the repeat offenders who don't respond to multiple attempts at getting treatment /rehab might need to go to jail but lets me more lenient on people and give them some chances to better themselves.

Punishing them has proved ineffective and just encourages them to do it more because they're already depressed. Persecuting them is just going to make them that much worse when they get back out on the street. Most of them just want to get high and overdose anyway. Nothing is ever 100% a solution but I think it's better to get them clean and into therapy and find out why they're wanting to use. Because there's a lack of or a repeated refusal for them to want to stop their addiction.

Depends upon the reason. If they became addicted to prescription medication, then help because it's not their fault they had to have it. Recreational users, however, elicit no sympathy from me because they chose to take that path. Sorry, chaps.

What about recreational users who aren’t in their right mind and/or have a lapse in judgement?

If there is a genuine mental health condition then fair enough. But others should know right from wrong.

Making a mistake is one thing. Continuously repeating the same mistake is a different matter. If you keep crashing your car over and over again, you're doing something wrong.
