An apple tree in Germany has been decorated with 10,000 hand-painted eggs ahead of Easter celebrations.
Volker Kraft, 76, and his family have been adorning the tree in their garden in the eastern town of Saalfeld for nearly half a century.
When I went to school as a child, I used to pass a lilac shrub decorated at Easter, and that was my inspiration, Mr Kraft said.
Forty-seven years ago, this tree was a sapling decorated with 18 plastic eggs, he added. You can now see here what develops after 47 years: as the tree grew, my wife blew the eggs and the children start painting.
The intricately decorated eggs now draw hundreds of visitors each year.
We came here because we read about it in our new homeland. We have been living in Switzerland for a few years now, and it was in the papers, said visitor Nebulousrg Schleicher.
Visitors can purchase decorated Easter eggs for ââ¬5 (ã4) as well as postcards and DVDs, which Mr Kraft sells from a booth in his garden.
The elderly German says he will not be adding to his 10,000 egg collection in the coming years.
There will be no increase because I do not have storage capacity anymore. I would have to sleep with the eggs otherwise, he joked.
