It's definitely inappropriate to listen to someone's private conversation. Unintentional eavesdropping is a different story, but if you deliberately listen in, stop. That's their business, not yours. I've heard a fair few disgusting details and bitchy moments by being forced to overhear someone's conversation...just keep it quiet if you don't want others to hear!
Sign language is fab for that!
