What is your opinion of Egypt as a tourist destination?

What do you know about the history of Egypt?

Do you think Egypt is a dangerous or safe country?

What do you think it would be like to go back in time and live in Ancient Egypt?

Not somewhere I've ever been - but, one of my friends went (during the winter, when it wasn't unbearably hot). And one thing that he found was that the security was rather lax... the person checking the passports wasn't even paying attention :P .

I hope they've improved that, at least!

I used to have a supervisor (at an old job) who was from there. She had a very unique name that I cannot remember right now. I heard that they have a lot of crime and pick-pockets but its a beautiful place. I'd like to go visit if I ever had the opportunity.

Security is very good in Egypt and the Egyptians are quite friendly and are used to westerners. There is so much to see in Egypt that you would need a month to take it all in. I recommend the Valley of the Kings and Luxor.

If tourist guides and vendors start to harass you and won't leave you alone, then talk a few words in German as none of them speak it. They all know a bit of English, French, and Spanish. Come out with, "Ein sprechen und feistein zie Deutsches" and they will immediately leave you alone and hit on another tourist.

Sounds like you've been there before? When was the last time you went?

No woman needs to wear a hijab but putting a thin silk scarf over your head will gain you a lot of favors and respect. Everywhere you go female vendors sell them at very cheap prices and they will put them on for you.

I think it's a great idea as long as you take the necessary precautions, just like traveling to any destination. It would be incredibly ignorant of me to judge a country based off what subjective information I have from the media, though, so I can't really say much about what I think of it. It is beautiful, though, and I would love to visit just for the history.
