This is quite a sad story, but it's also heartwarming in a way. Check out this snippet from a Nintendo Power issue that's 15 years old...

As many of you know, an official localization of Dragon Quest VI is finally heading our way. It's only taken a ridiculously long time. Unfortunately, Edith is no longer around to enjoy it. She only recently passed away on Jan. 3rd. A snippet from her obituary says...

“Edith enjoyed reading, playing video games, and was an author of a family genealogy book that she proudly distributed to her family.

Surviving are her children, John Hillstrom (Cindy) of Puyallup, Marge Workman (Dick) of Port Orchard, brothers Gene of Port Orchard, Bob (Leslie) of Port Orchard, Richie of Auburn and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

As Edith would say, ‘Think Beautiful’.”

The worst part about this all is that Edith probably knew that the localization was on the way. The good news is, many gamers are leaving Edith and her family some wonderful messages on and online memorial. Her gaming legacy is going to live on for a very long time.

“Your letter in Nintendo Power Volume 82 was the first thing I thought of when I heard DQ6 was finally coming to America. I never knew you, but you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.” - Joshua Kanary, Mentor, Ohio
