^ Ditto.
But it should be popular vote. The EC has been used and abused.. and should evolve. Our SCOTUS is largely made up by presidents who LOST the popular vote.
But really, everything else we do in life requires a majority say, and in all honesty the popular vote would be a way to ensure that each person gets one vote. And if we were to go with that, then the people would see that they really aren't all that different. If you have a group of 25 people, and ask them what they want for lunch, pizza or burgers and fries, and 18 people say they want pizza, they should get pizza right?
Or should the 7 people who opted for burgers be able to force the 18 others to have them too? In reality, the people who wanted pizza will get that, but those who opted for burgers will either it themselves or, the company can set a budget that allows for both, so that all parties are happy.
This is the way I feel it should be done. If the majority votes one way, then the majority should see that result.
Most people in this country can see eye to eye on the issues and can agree on them regardless of where they fall politically. It isn't a black and white issue, (not talking race here) but there is a lot of gray and seeing shared interests among the people is NOT something that those who want minority rule want, or want the people to see for themselves.
So it isn't like the Pizza party, can't or won't work with the Burger party when elected, and they may be more likely to do so especially if they look over the data and see that those who voted Burger also like some of the same things on pizza, and those who voted Pizza like some of the same things on a burger.. and so, the Pizza party would be wise to offer both a Pepperoni Pizza Burger and Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza as compromises, and to show that they care about the Burger people too.
I think that this is because, the more you can find common ground with someone, the more likely it is that you'll want to start from there to work with them. If you focus on what you have in common then you are more likely to get along, but if you focus on differences, then you are more likely to fight and hate each other, and this is exactly what the minority rule party wants.
But that doesn't work if the Burger party actually doesn't care what the majority wants, they just want to be in charge and to force burgers on everyone regardless of how they voted or why. So they may be more inclined to project this outward onto others and say without proof that the Pizza people hate Burger people, and want to force pizza on everyone and will kill those that don't. And that people should remember how different the Pizza people are from the Burger people and say that if they were in power, no one would be forced into anything.
They say this even though it was only the Pizza Party that came up with appealing compromises for the Burger voters, even though the Burger party previously never did so when they had the vote.. nor cared to do so, which is why they were voted out. This is what I mean when I say that racism and bigotry in general is a distraction.. if you hate me because I am Black and left-handed, then you won't notice that we agree with either a Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza or a Pepperoni Pizza Burger for lunch..
And now I am hungry for a bacon cheeseburger pizza.. LOL
