Well, last week I got a job working at a local supermarket, and I start my training tomorrow morning. I'll be doing shifts on the checkouts and in the dairy section, and I'm a little bit nervous about starting, but it should be fine. I'll let everyone know how it goes

That's wonderful news and congratulations!

Congratulations! That seems like it won't be too bad to get adjusted to.

Good luck.

Welcome to the world of supermarket employment! Let me tell ya from experience. It has its highs and its lows.

That, meeting new people, learning things you didn't know before.

I've done two training days so far, and it's been good fun. I have to learn all of the different varieties and odd, exotic fruit and vegetables; yesterday someone bought a galangal (ever heard of that?). Anywho, I'm enjoy myself thus far. Sci, have you got any tips for packing away groceries? Having to scan and pack them is a bit slow since I'm new

Awesome! Congrats!

Work your way up to the produce department. I hear thats the best one to work at from my friends who work at supermarkets.

I worked at a grocery store once for 3 days and quit because the days off were always different and not 2 consecutive days off together + my boss was a slave driver (I was an overnight stocker / worked when they were closed). We litterally had to run up and down the aisles with a handtruck/dolly full of merchandise . Then after we'd run all the boxes next to where they'd go, we'd all get together in a team and start putting the stuff up on the shelves. If you werent super fast you'd get yelled at. I almost sliced my hand open with a box cutter while I was there because I was trying to keep up with the veteran stockers. lol

I'm sure I would have like working there if I was on the day shift, but I wasn't. I cursed out my boss and walked out half way through my shift on the 3rd day.

Well since I only bag groceries and don't do any scanning. Only tips I can give ya. Is to be careful with the Eggs. Put those, bread, chips, and any really easy to crush stuff in the seat part of the cart. Or just at the top.

Congratulations at getting a job.
