Do you get an employee evaluation at your job?

How often do they do one on you? Yearly?
Have you ever had a really good one?
bad one? One that you thought was unfair?

Yes, I have a full one once per year and have to do one for all my staff as well.

But there is an excellent book called Management Rewired that challenges performance reviews altogether.

I have had both good an bad ones, it all depends on the effort put into it. You can tell very fast if they are an exercise in some HR thing that needs to be done or if the manager is really interested in you and your career.

I get evaluated once a year. My evaluations have always been good. I did, however, get passed up for promotion which I felt was very unfair. There were two of us going for the promotion. The other nurse has one year seniority over me. I have a perfect attendance record. The other nurse calls in sick at least twice a month and is also late most of the time. She got the job based on seniority only.

Now I ask you, do you think that was fair?

It is a total load of crap as what I do cannot be measured in call metrics or any other qualitative means, yet that is what they look at.

I got my yearly one and was unhappy at one of the things they told me to improve on, but other than that it was a overall good evaluation. I had a little drama with my supervisor over me disagreeing with my evaluation, but in the end I signed it and it was put in my file. Life goes on.

This year's was waaaay better.
According to my evaluation; I'm pretty much a perfect employee.
