Environment + Govt

The govt should impose mandatory recycling laws. Garbage men will have to inspect the trash for violations before they take it away.

Seriously though, if everyone does their part then we should be fine. Easier said than done though I guess.

Ideally (in an ideal conservative world), everyone would do things around the house and in their lives to reduce their negative impact on the environment without any nagging by the government.

Unfortunately that doesn't happen, so government steps in, provides incentives, invests in R&D concerning green energy etc.

I guess you have to decide whether you want humanity to survive on this planet, and whether you are willing to have the seas rise 30ft and have all the ice at the poles melt.

The seas have dropped and risen before, sometimes suddenly. There is no such thing as a stable shoreline when you look at the geologic time line.

The ice caps come and go. And the climate changes. Without any help from us at all. How much air pollution has Iceland added to the mix over the last month or so? Both their cars and their volcano. Which is more significant to the entire atmosphere of the planet?

No, I am not in favor of burning down a rain forest, but I also didn't enjoy paying four dollars a gallon for gas. I am in favor of taking reasonable action to help protect the environment. But I don't see the common sense of installing light bulbs that, if broken, becomes a HazMat situation in my living room.

And then I have to ask... what do you do about naturally occurring oil leaks into the ocean? Is it OK because it is being caused by Mother Nature and not Exxon-Mobile or somebody?

Sure. Take the Gulf spill for instance, had the government did their part to ensure it was safe and secure, I doubt it would of happened; possibly prevented.

Yeah... I'm sure we had millions of people living in cities that would be flooded by this change in sea level back then too...

No, I am not in favor of burning down a rain forest

What would the motive be in that?

What do I think about them? It part of the natural cycle, may not be good for ocean life, but those are nowhere near the point or near the degree at which this BP oil spill is at currently.

I didn't respond to the rest of your post because I mostly agree with it. Although I must ask where you live that you have 4.00$ a gallon gasoline right now. And I'm not sure what you are talking about with the light bulbs. The new LED light bulbs are great.

Yeah blame the government, that's what Americans love to do instead of taking responsibility for being ignorant sheep and putting dumbasses into office. You know, the lack of oversight concerning offshore drilling and lack of regulation stemmed directly from Dick Cheney and the Bush Administration?

I don't blame the government, but I believe that when an oil rig is setup, it should be inspected and given a permit to drill. I heard that the rig didn't even have proper certification to be drilling. Once a rig is setup, you still need someone to go out there and monitor it, give it regular inspections. Sure hope you don't plan on me buying a boat and going out there myself to inspect the rig. I'd have no idea what to do or how to ensure it's safe and secure to operate. Usually, I agree, we as the citizens shouldn't blame the government for our own mistakes, but this isn't America's fault or the citizens. I ultimately blame BP for not receiving proper inspections, but I don't know how they continued to operate without government interference.

It's the same as for restaurants and the health department. If a restaurant hasn't received any proper inspections to operate, then why is it open? Then, a few customers get sick from food poison. It's not my fault or anyone else's fault, ultimately, it's the restaurant owner's fault, but I believe the government should of never allowed such an establishment to open, or operate in the rig argument.

I don't trust any government, they all lie cheat, steal, so why should I pay any attention, when all there doing is meeting there own goals e.g.more money and screwing each other over.

No offense but the governments are in the crapper and getting crappier by the second.

Oh dear we lost some money, bad debts or laughably toxic debts, I know lets put these so called toxic debts into a bank to fester for a while and once the economy is back up and running we'll screw it all up again.

It's a joke!
