Environment vs Free-will

There's definitely a 50/50 split with this topic. On the one hand, environment 100% shapes people, often permanently. However, there are cases -albeit not a lot - of people who grew up in a poor environment and turned their life around. The issue, however, remains that those negatively impacted by their environment grow up to repeat the same negative environment in their life. Then you have the sad cases where people try to better their life, try to escape that environment, but fail miserably.
