I am against keeping exotic animals as pets. Interaction between animals and humans is creating new diseases. Furthermore, these exotic animals might also pose threat to human owners because animals have erratic behavior.

Some "exotic" livestock become pets for some people; I used to know a man who even toilet trained a pet llama and left the door open for it to come & go as it pleased. 
Some fun there, but I don't think any new diseases were created.
