I guess it all depends on what you want from your travels.
For instance, I can never understand the point of all the Brits that go to the key holiday resorts in Spain & the like, where nearly everything is run by British Ex-Pats and consequentially the native language is English, meaning that apart from the obvious climactic difference, there no real difference to being back in the U.K. If I were to go on holiday abroad, I would be wanting to experience the local culture & to do my best to meet the challenge of learning at least some of their language, even if it's just something as basic as Please & Thank You.
