Have you ever been to a forum that had extreme measures for your avatar and or your sig?

I just joined a forum, and it lets you have an avatar after 2 weeks and 50 posts! You also can't pm anyone until then as well.

Usually forums like such are more concerned about statistics and other revenues, really excluding the purpose of the community. Here at Off Topix, we're not trying to be competitive or make a profit, so statistics and having members around to click ads isn't of our concern; thus, the only explanation for not allowing members an avatar until an extended time or an exact post count would be due to spam prevention, but two weeks and at least 50 posts is just another way of forcing members to post on their site. I don't visit them if I don't have to.

We don't have any strict measures on Chatting Time either. The signature can't be too big, nor can the avatar, but that's about it, really.

Apparently they've had spammers that show men and women private parts in thier avatars, that's why they have such a crazy limit. However the time limit is still crazy for me, it's such a long time without an avatar.

Yeah that is pretty annoying. Before I start posting on a forum I put in an avy and signature. Seems inconvenient to be blocked from doing that and watch your post count for the opportunity to edit your settings.

I never been to a forum like that and don't see myself wanting to do so because they usually have all sorts of insane rules all that lead to eventual banning because the guy in charge is a nut. lol

I've never been to a forum like that either. The worst I've run into is a forum that would not allow custom avatars/signatures unless you became a supporting member. Needless to say, I'm not going to support a forum just to be able to use custom avatars/signatures.

Well thats not good, as you can see from the responce to this thread, people dont like it.

Well, considering some forums don't let you have a signature at all, i find that 10 post rule very reasonable.

Interesting comparrison. So if I found a forum that banned ALL its members, it would be reasonable for me ban everyone here except for one or two members.. Then when people get upset I can say Well some forums ban ALL their members so Im being reasonable.

Just kidding.

Never ever seen or heard of these type of things. There are rules in a forum that you cant advertise without 10 posts, have a limitited sized sig, but it doenst bother me at all
