What is one lesson in love you learned from a failed relationship?

it needs to be balanced, there needs to be give and take on both sides, and you should 'want' the person, not 'need' them

Love and compatibility are not the same things. You may love each other deeply, but are just too different in terms of personalities and way of thinking. Compromising will only take you so far, eventually you'll learn that you'd both suffer less if you were with someone more compatible.

This.

Also, you can be too young to know what you really want in the future. A lot of kids don't realize this and get wrapped up in the idea of love being the end-all-be-all that'll solve every problem. That is definitely not the case.

Don't sweat the small stuff, pick your battles wisely.

This and if you don't communicate with that person you love it is possible that this kind of relationship will get bored then there is no sense to continue.

Without trust, there is no hope.

For guys, the 'damsel in distress' is not the foundation for a strong relationship

Yeah some people never stop talking about all their problems and try to take advantage of other people's sympathetic nature.
