Families of Newtown victims sue rifle manufacturer

The families of nine people killed in the Newtown school massacre filed a lawsuit against the maker and sellers of the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle used in the shooting, saying the gun should not have been sold for civilian use because of its overwhelming firepower.

The lawsuit alleging wrongful death and negligence was filed in state court and announced on Monday — the day after the second anniversary of the shooting, which left 20 children and six educators dead and became a rallying point for gun-control efforts.

In addition to Bushmaster, the defendants are Camfour, a firearm distributor, and Riverview Gun Sales, the now-closed East Windsor store where the gunman's mother purchased the Bushmaster rifle in 2010. Messages seeking comment from the defendants were not immediately returned.

The complaint says the gun allows shooters to inflict "unparalleled civilian carnage."

"In order to continue profiting from the sale of AR-15s, defendants chose to disregard the unreasonable risks the rifle posed outside of specialized, highly regulated institutions like the armed forces and law enforcement," the plaintiffs wrote in the complaint.

Bill Sherlach, whose wife, Mary, was killed in the shooting, said he believes in the Second Amendment but also that the gun industry needs to be held to "standard business practices" when it comes to assuming the risk for producing, making and selling a product.

Your thoughts regarding this lawsuit against the maker and sellers of the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle used in the shooting?

I don't really agree. I agree it's a gun that shouldn't be for civilian use, but I feel that way for everything except handguns. And this lawsuit won't get very far, I think. The moment someone mentions the second amendment, it'll all go to shit.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. With that said while I am very sorry for what happened, you cannot just go around placing the blame on people who actually had nothing to do with this tragedy. Do you sue the auto industry if someone is killed in a car accident or in a hit and run? Do you sue the knife company if someone is killed with a knife? Do you sue the manufacturer of fireplace tools if a person is beaten to death with a fireplace poker? No, you don't, the inanimate object is harmless unless it is in the hands of someone with bad intentions.

How is a manufacturer responsible for the acts of an individual? The gun wasn't even his to begin with! If they want to sue someone, sue the person who owned the gun. I understand that the mother was trying to teach her son respect for guns and gun safety. Whether or not the kid was mentally disturbed, disabled is not my primary concern. He was child or early teen and should not of had access to his mother's gun safe. He should not have ever known where the key for the safe was, especially if he was known to have mental issues. So, sue the mom, she is the person that neglected to secure her guns and/or put the key for her safe a place he knew and was able to get a hold of it to gain access to the guns in question. She knew of his mental instability and didn't take the precautions necessary. If she had this shooting would not have happened. People need to remember guns themselves don't kill! It is the person behind the gun that does the shooting and the killing. Some people might not agree with that statement, but it is true. A gun sitting on a table or in gun safe can not kill anyone unless a person or individual pulls that trigger.

Agreed.

i do agree with you on the gun issue...

although deadly weapons aren't the killers, they do make it easier, however, when it boils down to is it's the humans that are behind the weapon and it's the human that's making the choice to fire the gun and shooting someone else, period...

on the "shooting" thing, not sure if you believe the story or not but this video will make you think twice...

Formerly the Executive Director of the National Institute for School and Workplace Safety, Wolfgang Halbig has recently formed a new safety and security company, WK & Associates. Previous to founding NISWS, Mr. Halbig worked in public education as a teacher, dean, assistant principal, principal, director of an alternative school and as the Director for School Safety and Security of the Seminole County Public Schools, a school district of approximately 65,000 students. This audio is taken from an interview with Alex Jones.

Wolfgang Halbig has compiled sixteen key questions about Sandy Hook event:

1. Who directed the New Haven Federal Bureau of Investigation field office to classify the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting (SHES)?

2. Why and for what reason would the FBI classify the SHES shooting when they did not classify the Columbine shooting which also was an Active Shooter Mass Casualty Incidents (AS/MCI)?

3. Who on was the Incident Commander as required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in directing the AS/MCI at SHES?

• Who at the Incident Command Center made the ordering of Port-A-Potties a high priority since they were delivered within three hours of the school shooting?

• Who ordered those Port-A-Potties from Southbury, Connecticut?

• When I called the Port-A-Pottie company, after searching for over a week as to who they were and when they were ordered, I was told this information was classified and they are not allowed to share that information with me.

• The next morning I received a phone call from the Southbury Police Department at my home telling me not to call that company again, since I was harassing them.

• High priority for toilets but not for Life Star Trauma helicopters or paramedics.

4. Who and why did they not request Life Star helicopters, knowing that children and school staff were seriously injured and clinging to life?

5. Who and why did they not allow the paramedics and the EMTs inside SHES?

6. Who declared all 18 children and six school staff members legally dead within the first eight minutes?

7. Who was the Certified Environmental Bio-Hazard Decontamination company contracted by Newtown Public Schools (NPS) to remove 45-65 gallons of blood, skull fragments, brain tissue, bodily fluids, blood-soaked carpets and any other decontaminated area inside SHES?

8. Why does an off-duty lieutenant from the Newtown Police Department (NPD) refuse to leave his off-duty work assignment at a construction site when hearing that shots have been fired at SHES?

9. Who at NPS notified all of the parents in writing, as required by Conn. law, who had children attending SHES, as well as every school staff member, for every school year, of all the potential life threatening chemical hazards? The school had high levels of lead paint throughout the entire school, asbestos in the ceiling and floor tiles, asbestos in the insulation, and most of the school had very high levels of PCBs.

10. Who provided the urgent medical care to the two children who were not transported to the Danbury Trauma Center until an hour after the school was deemed safe for that 15-mile drive?

11. Who treated those two children who had been shot multiple times, like three to 11 times, since they did not allow the paramedics and EMTs inside SHES?

12. Why did the parents of the two children who died at the Danbury hospital not allow their children to donate their organs to other children waiting for the gift of life?

13. What happened to the 500 children and 60 school staff members from SHES on 12/14/2012?

14. Who was the police officer calling into the NPD dispatcher stating, in his words, that he had multiple weapons, a rifle and a shotgun, and who has the rifle and the shotgun, as the chain of evidence should show, that was found in classroom eight (8)?

15. Why would a police officer by the name of Lt. Vangehle, at 9:45:21 a.m. on 12/14/2012, from the NPD, after finding a female kindergartener in the hallway, make her go into room eight (8) and leave her there? Room eight was supposedly the gruesome crime scene with dead children and school staff.

16. Why would two Conn. State Troopers enter room ten (10) at 9:55:31 a.m. on 12/14/2012, which was supposedly the gruesome crime scene with dead children and school staff, and tell a male kindergartener who they found in the bathroom, who’s name is redacted, and tell them (so it must be more than one), to stay and they will both be back when it is safe?

here's more intelligent questions from an genius:

Wolfgang Halbig is a hero for standing up to these criminals. Here's my questions besides the ones Halbig raises: Why are all of the cars in the school parking lot pointing in the same direction? I mean, who does that? On closer inspection (zoomed copter video) it clearly reveals that most of the vehicles in the school parking lot had expired tags from as far back as 2008. Is it possible that approximately 60-70% of a school faculty would drive cars to work with expired license tags, some also six years into expiration? Why are there 20 or so Christmas trees laying behind the Firehouse during the shooting? Weren't they supposedly donated by a North Carolina gentlemen a few days AFTER the shooting? Why is there a sign in front of the Firehouse on the morning of the shooting regarding "check-in" for the actors? Is it possible that no parent would demand to see their child after learning that they would not be allowed to view the deceased? Or that NOT ONE family has sued the school board since the shooting... something that is commonplace in ALL OTHER school tragedies? Could a skinny teenager shoot 27 people dead without leaving any of them alive in only 8 minutes? Could he even carry the amount of ammo suggested as found on the scene into the school and several extremely heavy weapons to boot?

Oh, its' not closed-minded to ignore that SOB, Ghost....in fact, there's 2 news-sources that, whenever they're brought, automatically send up red flags in my mind: Alex Jones & Russia Today. In the case of the former, its' 'cause he's a certifiable nutbag...in the case of the latter, its' 'cause they're a known propaganda outfit for the Russian government.

yes, it is, you're letting your feelings get in the way of realizing great and important questions and fallacy about an event that is important to get cleared up...

you call people a "nut-bag" yet accept other people and propagandist media like bill and fox news? :|

you don't make sense...

if you're going to be true to yourself at least man up and be true and not fake...

I listened to this video and what I do not hear from this conspiracy is why he thinks they supposedly did all of this.
