What are favicons?

...They are those little images you see up top next to the URL's.

(Example: on here you will see a little Off Topix next to http://offtopix.com/showthread.php......)

Do you use one on your forum(s)?

Do you ever notice them on the forums / websites you go on?

I have used them before...and I do notice them...they show up on my bookmarks bar.

Yeah; it's a little black symbol that looks like a power button.

Yeah. I usually have a lot of tabs open, so as I'm scanning them I notice the favicons.

I have noticed them on other sites as well as here.

Yep, if a site doesn't have one, I'm probably not going to stay around long.

And yeah, I have one on my sites.

I like 'em, makes it easier to distinguish between sites when I have a lot of tabs open.

And yes, I do use one.

If thats all it takes for you to leave a place, then you are one picky fella.

That's not all, but it's a contributing factor.

So are these beneficial to websites and forums?
I guess, it makes it easier to find the site in bookmarks and such.

OP-Ive noticed, i use them and i like them.

I use one on my forum, though for perhaps the first few months I didn't use one since I didn't really know much about them. I've always noticed them before though.

I notice them if they're interesting. But a lot of sites I use have black ones, and my Firefox skin is black with electric-blue sides to it, so they're not noticable.

I think they're important for a forum. It gives the forum more personality plus helps when bookmarking the site.

I have used favicon's in the past and the present.

Helps when you have 30 tabs open (guilty).

I know before I posted that I don't use a favicon but how do I get one and how do I install it for both the blog and forum?
