FIFA World Cup coverage.

Yes, it is true. DISNEY owned ESPN/ABC has decided that Americans do not deserve to see their team play in the World Cup unless they pay for cable TV service. I say those of us that have cut that cord vote with our checkbooks the next time the mouse releases a movie.

Being a massive football/soccer fan, the World Cup is an event I always look forward too, and this year I have watched every single game so far and will continue to watch every game if I can. Some of the games haven't started until 11pm UK time, and one even started at 2am on Saturday night yet I still watched it.

Watching USA v Ghana right now in fact, USA are playing very well and were 1-0 up within 31 seconds, which is really quite phenomenal. :)

Ghana just is not playing WC quality ball.

But the fact that the US held its own even after Jozy Altidore went down to injury says a lot about the depth and quality of that depth of the US team.

Now, what will happen with Portugal is an open question especially after they had their own bad injury to a starter.

Well, Ghana haven't actually been too bad, I don't think. They're playing quick football but the US centre backs and Tim Howard have been outstanding tonight and have reduced Ghana to really only one real chance. I do feel for Altidore, the likelihood is since it's a hamstring injury he won't be playing again this World Cup, which is a massive shame for any player.

If the US can get a point (draw) against Portugal and ensure that Germany don't beat them by four goals then they'll go through. I think that's a realistic outcome at this stage, in honesty. Portugal looked shocking earlier on.

At the World Cup, EVERYBODY is a fashion critic.

From the running BBC commentary:

17:51
One change will certainly be made by Marc Wilmots at the break - his shirt. The Belgium boss was told by the match officials during the first half to throw on a jacket because his crisp white number clashed with the Algeria players' shirts. Hope he packed a spare, otherwise he might have to dig around in the Estadio Mineirao lost property box.

I am Glad I am almost 900 miles away from his living room.

And I can ALMOST hear his shouting from here if I went outside and listened carefully.
I, on the other hand, was in a room with two people who were quite happy about that specific turn of events. Myself, I was more focussed on wiping a few countries off the map.

I was under the impression that Americans largely didn't care about it anyway.
We get it for free on the first government-sponsored channel.

I'd rather listen to it on the radio than having what passes for a government running our media more than they already do.

In other news:

Mexico and Brazil just went out and ran back and forth for an hour and a half and forgot that they were supposed to kick a ball towards the square net once in awhile.

Again, from the BBC's coverage

Remember we want you to share where you are watching the World Cup using #myworldcupseat. You may find it difficult to beat German astronaut Alexander Gerst who posted this on his Facebook page, writing 'We managed to fit 20 minutes of live #worldcup in between our 10 hours of science experiments. Congrats to the German team from space!'

You couldn't be less accurate if you tried, it was a great match and very well contested, Mexico were very unlucky to come out of the game with only a point against the host nation, they could've and probably should've won the game.

Sorry about that, I forgot the "sarcasm" tag.

Actually, Mexico was lucky they made it through the game without half of their players getting red cards for various supposed infractions against the Host Nation.

Well, Spain, probably one of the tournament favourites look as if they're out, 57 minutes in and 2-0 down to Chile, they HAVE to get at least a draw to stand a chance of making it out of the group stage.
