Have you ever been caught in a fire? Ever needed to evacuate a building due to a fire?

Never been caught in a fire no, but there's been quite a few fires around here, one just up the road from our house, some kids were mucking around with a magnifying glass and almost burnt out the whole field, the trucks got it under control though.

No. But one time, my sister when she was younger set a trashcan on fire. Then about a month or so ago, somebody left a trashcan on fire in an empty house.

Today at school the gentleman's toilets were set alight. The entire school was evacuated, however the alarms in one block of classrooms failed to work and a senior student was going around knocking on doors yelling fire! and evacuate!. I was in a free period and was in the senior common room along with about 3 others. I thought it was just another drill (we've had so many over the past few weeks) until I saw the fire trucks and police show up. However, I remained inside the common room which went unchecked during the entire situation. Poor handling of an emergency situation by school officials.

How in the world did the toilets get set alight in the first place? And yeah, that was a poor way to handle it.

Unknown at this point. Everyone is assuming it was arson by a student, but I'm sure the police and school will let us know in due time.

While my mother was sick and battling cancer, she burned down her house and some how made it out alive during her drugged up / heavily medicated state.

All my childhood pictures and several other things were lost.

Sorry to hear that Nebulous.

What's important is that your memeries are kept in your heart, not in a folder tucked away somewhere... I think it was Opera that told me that (or was it Dr. Phil?...)

Thanks for the cliche comforting words however I don't have memories in my heart of my childhood as I cannot remember everything from back then. Thats why there is pictures. Well WAS pictures..

I'm over it now though, you cant change the past.

Agreed. Life can be is shit sometimes and it's nice to know that there'll always be someone willing to climb through it with you.

At a company I worked for we to evacuate the building due to a kitchen fire. The fire department quickly put out the fire and needless to say, there was no lunch served that day

When I was a youngster, we lived in Mississippi. We were awakened by smoke and my dad ordered me to hurry and get outside. It wound up that the KKK had set a huge cross afire in the front lawn of the house next door. It was the scariest thing I had ever seen. My dad banged on the door and told the family to get out of the house. Neighbors from all over came and knocked the cross down and put out the fire.

What a shame... no lunch.

I bet that earlier incident would have been really scary for anyone. Having someone bang on your door telling you there is a fire - frightening.

I was really shocked that the fire alarms at school weren't working as they should. Had there been a fire in the block with the non-working alarms who knows how it could have turned out. And I was also shocked that not one member of staff checked all the classrooms to ensure no-one had been left behind. Talk about neglecting to uphold their duty to ensure student safety.

There was a fire in my kitchen last year, nothing too serious as I thankfully caught it in time and was able to put it out myself.

I had to call the fire brigade out to a car on fire one time, noone else was around by the time I saw it though I'm pretty certain it was arson.

I've had plenty of drills in collage. 1000+ students evacuated in less than 5 mins >_< Man it was busy

But've never been in one.

I read Have you ever caught fire?

In any case, I've never had to leave a building due to a real fire I think.

Like Jazzy, there was a fire in the kitchen of somewhere In worked too. Someone set the toast on fire! I was a kitchen assistant at the same company at the time, but I worked in the downstairs kitchen and this happened in the upstairs one
