FL Governor Booed At Jacksonville Memorial

(The Guardian) Florida governor Ron DeSantis has announced $1m for heightened security at a historically Black college, a day after he was booed at a memorial gathering for victims of a deadly racist shooting in his state.

DeSantis said his administration would give $1m to Edward Waters University to enhance its security after the gunman in this weekend’s racist killings at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville tried to enter the historically Black college but was denied entry.

DeSantis said that an additional $100,000 would be given to a charity for the victims’ families. “As I’ve said for the last couple of days, we are not going to allow our HBCUs to be targeted by these people,” DeSantis said. “We’re going to provide security help with them.”

DeSantis’s funding measure comes as he faces criticism for limiting Black history education in Florida, a move that many have condemned as racist.

DeSantis has also come under renewed scrutiny for his support of expanded gun access in his state. The Florida governor signed legislation in April that allows resident to carry concealed guns without a permit.

On Sunday, Ron DeSantis was jeered while speaking at a memorial that drew a crowd of nearly 200 to remember the victims of the Dollar General shooting. “He don’t care,” an attendee shouted as DeSantis was being introduced, the Hill reported.

At one point, a council member came to DeSantis’s defense and attempted to quiet the crowd, but the booing continued. “It ain’t about parties today,” said Jacksonville city councilwoman Ju’Coby Pittman. “A bullet don’t know a party.”

DeSantis referred to the shooter as a “major-league scumbag” in his remarks, adding that Florida opposed racist violence. “What he did is totally unacceptable in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said. “We are not going to let people be targeted based on their race.”

This is LITERALLY what happens when you constantly demonize marginalized people and dogwhistle support for the WS/Nazis out there and refuse to denounce them. When you refuse to acknowledge the humanity of others, you give license to others to do the same and commit atrocities against them. These things contribute to our genocide as much as banning or white-washing our history does, this is known as paper genocide.. and is just as violent as the ones involving violence (be it civilian or state-sponsored) for the same reason.

King Leopold II of Belgium did this to the Congolese. He ended up killing up to 13 Million people.

Hitler literally did the same thing, to every group by pitting them against each other until he ended up killing 6M people.. and he learned it from our Jim Crow laws.

And now DeSantis, Trump, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, et. al, have been doing the same thing.. while also trying in vain to erase and further whitewash our history. Straight people have been getting killed by the same bigoted assholes that target the LGBT+ and while all this is going down, BIPOC are still being targetted by the same group of people. White racist, trans/homophobic, right-wing lunatics and those who seek allyship with them. When one group is targetted, it makes US ALL unsafe.. and we wouldn't even have to be a part of the targetted group in question.

It is kind of a paradox. I mean, think about it..

If White people are so proud of their history on this planet, then why are they steadfastedly lying about theirs (our history textbooks could've been written by a dead Dr. Suess and some how, it would still be more factual than the books my schools had, and with these book and history bans, it is definitely much worse now) while trying to ban or erase everyone else's?

If they are so proud to be White and of the things their ancestors have done, then they should be having a raging hard-on when they learn of the truly horrific details of the things they have done. The fact that they used and skinned alive Black infants and toddlers as alligator bait should make them proud.

So should the lynching of Mary Turner.. the fact that White people lynched her and then cut her open as watched as her baby fell to the ground and cried and then had its skull crushed by the lynch mob as it did so, should really make them beam with pride. And the fact that these lynchings were formal affairs in which not only were they expected to dress up, but they would also get to indulge in cannibalism.

Yes, you read that right, not only did White people kidnap, rape, torture, and lynch their victims, but they would often cut up the remains and kept them as souvenir keepsakes, but they often ate some of their victim too and there are books that cover this. When the White mob kidnapped, tortured and lynched Nat Turner, they also decided to eat him because they feared that he would return from the dead if they didnt. His skull and severed penis were the only remains of his that were returned to his descendants for a proper burial.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, White people also dug up the Egyptian mummies as they were robbing their tombs, and ate them too because they thought it was medicine. They also cannibalized the Natives here during their first winter here in 1607. As a White person, they should be proud of the fact that their ancestors were the cause of at least 200 Native and Aboriginal tribes here, as in the American continents, to become exctinct, not just through warfare but biological warfare as well from the numerous diseases White people brought with them when they came over.

I recently learned that both Syphillis and Gonorrhea originated in Europe and from humans having zoophiliac relations with animals like cattle, sheep and goats.. though I forget which came from which animal.. (which sorta explains certain stereotypes that White people spread about other European groups..) but these diseases also contributed to their extinction. This was pretty much the case with any place they set foot on.. as they brought exctinction to the Tasmanians and until 1970 Europe had human zoos.

The Natives were kind to the White people, and were betrayed by them, given small pox blankets and then their land was stolen, using a helpful law known as the Homestead Acts, in which, for a mere $5, not only could you too, become a Native American, (known as a $5 Indian) but you could also force the few surviving members of the tribes you raped and genocided, to marry you and have your children under threat of death like the rest of their family. But every November they want to pretend that it all went down like it did in Disney's Pocahontas.

Why?

And that isn't even touching on Slavery, where you had White people (yes, the White women raped their slaves too, she often cried rape when she got caught, resulting in her rape victim being lynched) raping children.. Jim Crow, and everything else that has happened and is still ongoing.

If White people are so proud of their history, then the unvarnished truth told from the perspectives of their ancestors victims should make them feel extremely proud. There would be no reason to lie about it if they were truly proud.

I will say that it is interesting how most and the worst of the atrocities commited by White people against others were done so under the law and with guns. I wonder if that is somehow related to this. If it is, it would probably be banned because this is Florida we are talking about.

Congnitive dissonance, the same type that, for instance, allows a poor white working class fellow to look down upon black & minority individuals in the same boat as them for no other reason than....the color of their skin. Its' also the type that allows them to (a) ignore the parts of history they don't like and buttress up the kind they do like (think "the Lost Cause" as a good example) and (b) restrict the teaching of the parts of history about other groups unless it buttresses' up the parts they do like.
