You'll need to tell us how it goes!

Will do unless I get blown out of the chopper.

Question, although you may not know at this point. Will you also be doing medical transfer or just emergency calls?

Yes, we will transport from another medical facility if they cannot deal with the injury at their location. It's kind of like being a sky cab

Just realized I can't get away from working the Fourth of July every year. This year it falls on a Wednesday

Oh well, what's a girl to do?

Weirdest thing was I was supposed to be on vacation for two weeks the end of this month and returning July 7th. Those plans fell through because I just couldn't afford it. I was very upset and then all of a sudden I got my dream job. Guess that saying things happen for a reason is true.

Hell at least you are able *or were* to take the 4th of July off. I'm not even allowed to ask for it off. Sucks those plans weren't able to happen though!

~Update~

Just wanted to let everyone know that my first night on the job was a very busy one. The time just flew by. Yes, I know, terrible pun but I just couldn't help myself.

We had three transports from other hospitals to the Trauma Center. Then we had a house fire where the husband was burnt over 80% of his body. The last call out was for an overturned car that left the road and hit a tree. Four teenagers were in that car but only one survived. That one is in critical condition with little hope right now. Speed, alcohol and no seat belts are to blame.

Some of you may know by now that it's been a lifetime dream of mine to become a Flight Paramedic ( helicopter ). Right now, I am a ground ( ambulance ) Paramedic. In April, I took a six week course to up my qualifications and educational requirements needed to take the State Certification exam. I managed to pass the six week course and then it was on to the dreaded State Certification exam. This exam is three hours, fifty questions and all are in scenario form. No multiple choice. You had to write out each and every scenario. You are only allowed two wrong answers.

I have been waiting almost a month for the State Certification exam result. The result arrived this morning. I was scared to open the envelope as this is was a make it or break it for me. Well, once I opened the envelope, I was pleasantly surprised that I had scored 100%.

The next step is the behavioral interview. For those of you unfamiliar with behavioral interviews, employers ask probing questions based on past performance of job skills required for the position being sought. You'll be asked to give specific examples of how goals were achieved or what reaction you had to a particular set of circumstances. Beyond possessing exceptional clinical skills, the flight paramedic's personality plays a considerable role. You must exhibit leadership, diplomacy, and on the spot critical decision making skills.

Hope I can behave myself and get through this interview!

If I can, then I will become a Flight Paramedic on Monday, June 25th.
