Flood Control?

Do you have flood control enabled on your forum?

If so, how many seconds do you have it set it at?



When I had a forum, I had 10 second flood control. I like flood control as say I got spammed like mad, I would put the flood control up. Its a good feature to prevent human spam.

I set it at 15-20 seconds. If you are posting more than that, chances are you are not contributing a lot every 20 seconds, anyways

. It's not a long wait.



Doesn't bug me.. But personally anything over 30 seconds is annoying.

Yeah, its annoying for anything over 30 seconds. I don't see why myBB has there default set to 1 minute.

I think Rapture's is set to five seconds. It's the one thing everyone forgets to change when starting a board as it is usually set to default at 30 seconds or even more as it seems. XD

I think phpBB3's default is 10 seconds.

A forum I used to post at (unfortunately it's dead now) had flood control set at 63 seconds. It became an inside joke that when members posted too fast and flood control stopped them, they would go back and edit their post about raping/maiming/killing flood control so the 63 seconds would go by so they could post.



And the forum wasn't a failure despite the massive flood control. It had over 4 million posts last I remember before it closed down.

Well that is a random number. And I would shoot the flood control if it was that long, sometimes. It would drive me bonkers. And those are crazy stats.. I was on a site that still is active with a 10 second flood control, and here are the stats of it:



Threads: 79,117, Posts: 2,333,742, Members: 65,593



That must have been an incredible site to get that many posts!

Oh yeah. How can you even moderate 5,000+ posts/day though? My condolences go out to them.

I just set up a MyBB forum and that was practically the first thing I did was disabled Flood Control. Because I'm afraid if I left that off I would get a load of complaints about how I should turn it off. That's also why I'll be having the board on disability for the next few weeks so I can have time to play with things and find out how things work: MyBB, by the way is what I'm using.

I think anything above 10 seconds is rediculous. I hate those 30 seconds flood control. It's annoying.

Thoughts come fast, and if you're like me - your brains works faster than anything else, and lose train of thought quickly.

Remove the annoying flood control!
