I guess Smooth’s quote: Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something has me thinking as it relates to my own life. Does anyone know what it feels like to be stuck with fools who are constantly speaking about their accomplishments?

I have to endure the growing pains of one guy in my class. I’ll be honest; I’m struggling just to stay afloat. I’m improving…only because I’m doing everything humanly possible. I’m not a smart person by any means. I put in the effort without patting myself on the back afterwards. There are guys in my classes that always have to boast at one thing or another. One guy in my one class is especially arrogant, from announcing of his perfect grades like proclaiming the gospel, to high-fiving others after an accomplishment, to boasting about his 3.7 GPA (whatever that means). I guess for all the hard work I’m investing, I don’t want to be inferior to a person who brags about all things near and far. Not everyone needs to know what you name your drunken alter ego or what you are going to barbecue for the Easter holiday.

On a different note I’m really not a man of praise, I’m happy about my accomplishments but I don’t need to acknowledge them to others. My work speaks for itself - self praise is no praise. No matter how silent I stay though, the teacher will make it out to the class how much progress I am making. She knows how hard I work and I think she wishes the rest of the class would emulate that work ethic. But they don’t see it that way. I spend hours doing the lesson plans and homework, when others have not even started them. I am always the first one to arrive at class and talk to the teacher about the lesson plans when others lag behind and have a lethargic attitude. I spend my time at the library, hours in solitary study when they were doing other things. Instead of wasting my time trying to find ways to cheat on tests I want to learn and pass the test the old-fashioned way. Now I am supposed to be made the goody-two shoes snob in that situation because I use my time and efforts wisely? Typical crabs in a bucket mentality despising someone who is trying everything to succeed instead of doing more yourself.
